The Organization for the Promotion of Agroforestry (OPA-Haiti) is a non-profit organization headquartered in the North West of Haiti. We focus our attention on the link between environmental degradation and poverty. Our vision is to eradicate food insecurity in Haiti and restore its forest cover to at least 40%. Our mission is to work with poor communities to promote environmental transformation, community resilience and lift vulnerable households out of extreme poverty. In terms of member networking, the OPA is currently integrating USAID's international partner network (SAM system). It is governed by a 9-member board of directors and its operational structure is made up of a maximum of 15 field and office technicians. The organization has a demonstration farm in the North-West as well as a nursery occupying an area of approximately 5 Ha. In terms of historicity, first, between August 2014 and January 2017, OPA received from the Inter-American Foundation (IAF/USAID) two grants totaling USD 100,000 for the implementation of the HA-225 and HA-233 projects. These two projects are rich in success stories and the results of their external audit were quite satisfactory. Secondly, OPA obtained funds from the International Foundation for Science for an academic research project entitled: “Analysis of land change trends from 2001 to 2014 in the context of charcoal production”.
